Kafé Kemnade

2024 ist ein besonderes Jubiläumsjahr, denn vor genau 50 Jahren wurde das Festival Kemnade International gegründet, welches über Jahrzehnte eine der wichtigsten Veranstaltungen zu kultureller Vielfalt im Ruhrgebiet war und aus dem heraus sich schließlich auch Ruhr International entwickelt hat.

Um das besondere 50-jährige Jubiläum von Kemnade International auch bei Ruhr International 2024 zu würdigen, wurde das partizipative Projekt "Kafé Kemnade" ins Leben gerufen. Seit Ende 2023 treffen sich im Bahnhof Langendreer und im Kunstmuseum Bochum zahlreiche Akteurinnen und Akteure, Multiplikatorinnen und Multiplikatoren aus den interkulturellen Communitys der Region Ruhr. In einem generationenübergreifenden Dialog wird über Identitäten und Heimatgefühl diskutiert und in einem offenen Arbeitsprozess gemeinsam das politische wie künstlerische Programm von Kafé Kemnade gestaltet.

Auf dem Gelände der Jahrhunderthalle Bochum am neu etablierten Standort "Im Pappelwald" wird so an beiden Festivaltagen ein lebendiger Ort des künstlerischen wie menschlichen Austausches und Zuhörens entstehen, wobei mit Musik, Kunst und Begegnung gemeinsam sowohl das "alte" Festival auf der Wasserburg in Kemnade reflektiert und gefeiert als auch in die Zukunft des "neuen" Festivals Ruhr International geblickt wird.

Ausstellungseröffnung: Fotogespräche

Hartmut Beifuß begleitete das Festival Kemnade International von Beginn an mit seiner Kamera. In der Ausstellung werden die Fotografien von Interviews mit Zeitzeugen und Zeitzeuginnen ergänzt, die die Fotohistorikerin Özlem Arslan geführt hat. Die Sprecher:innen teilen ihre Erinnerungen und reflektieren auf das Heute.

Echos aus der "Stadt der Vielen", ein kollektives Erinnerungsprojekt

Gespräch mit Protagonisten und Protagonistinnen

"Bochum - Stadt der Vielen" ist ein Projekt der IFAK e.V., das drei Jahre lang in Bochum durchgeführt wurde und Lebensgeschichten von Menschen über 55 Jahre gesammelt hat, die in die Stadt zugewandert sind.

Zusammenkunft 50 – Tableism

Am eigens für das Festival gebauten Tisch, 1.5m x 7m, aus Holzbalken der Skulptur "Making a Stand" lädt University meets Querenburg e.V. an beiden Tagen zum #Tableism ein. Am Samstag wird gemeinsam ein Banner/Parachute für den UN Summit of the future gestaltet.

Kurdischer Tanzworkshop und Modenshow

In einer moderierten Modenshow zeigen zehn Tänzerinnen Trachten aus Mezopotamien. Im Anschluss werden eine musikalische Darbietung und Tänze aufgeführt. Die Teilnehmer:innen können sich gern dem Tanz anschließen.

"Café sur: Koloniale Fiktionen" und der Film „Ein Lebensbescheid“

CAFÉ COLONIAL nennt man ein typisches Buffet im Süden Brasiliens, das man besonders in Orten mit starkem deutschem Einfluss finden kann. Es geht um Identität, Kultur, Einwanderung und Bewegung. Aber es geht auch ums Essen, natürlich. Der Kurzfilm EIN LEBENSBESCHEID bezieht sich auf behördliche Strategien der Kontrolle und Ausweisung von Migranten und Migrantinnen, Asylsuchenden und Geflüchteten in Deutschland.

Initiative Hellas Bochum

Griechische Tänze aus dem Pontos-Gebiet

Seit mehr als 30 Jahren ist Initiative Hellas mit verschiedenen musikalischen und tänzerischen Darbietungen, Informationsmaterial über Griechenland und Zypern und griechischen Spezialitäten bei Kemnade International bzw. Ruhr International vertreten. Im Kafé Kemnade präsentiert sie traditionelle griechische Tänze aus dem Pontos-Gebiet (Schwarzes Meer) und lädt das Publikum zum Mitmachen ein.

2024 marks a special anniversary year, as exactly 50 years ago, the Kemnade International Festival was founded. It has been one of the most important events celebrating cultural diversity in the Ruhr area for decades and eventually led to the development of Ruhr International.

To honor the special 50th anniversary of Kemnade International at Ruhr International 2024, the participatory project "Kafé Kemnade" was launched. Since late 2023, numerous actors, multiplicators, and representatives from the intercultural communities of the Ruhr region have been meeting at Bahnhof Langendreer and the Bochum Museum of Art. Through a cross-generational dialogue, discussions about identities and feelings of home take place, and the political and artistic program of Kafé Kemnade is collaboratively designed in an open working process.

On the premises of Jahrhunderthalle Bochum at the newly established location "Im Pappelwald," a lively space for artistic and human exchange and listening will emerge on both days of the festival. Through music, art, and encounters, this space will reflect and celebrate not only the "old" festival at Wasserburg Kemnade but also look towards the future of the "new" festival, Ruhr International.

Hartmut Beifuß has accompanied the Kemnade International festival from the beginning with his camera. In the exhibition, the photographs are supplemented by interviews with witnesses conducted by photo historian Özlem Arslan. The speakers share their memories and reflect on the present.

Discussion with protagonists "Bochum - City of Many" is a project by IFAK e.V., conducted in Bochum for three years, collecting life stories of people over 55 who migrated to the city..

CAFÉ COLONIAL refers to a typical buffet in southern Brazil, particularly found in places with strong German influence. It touches on identity, culture, immigration, and movement, including food, of course. The short film A LIFE NOTICE refers to administrative strategies of control and expulsion of migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in Germany.

For more than 30 years, Initiative Hellas has been represented at Kemnade International and Ruhr International with various musical and dance performances, informational material about Greece and Cyprus, and Greek specialties. At Kafé Kemnade, they will present traditional Greek dances from the Pontos region (Black Sea) and invite the audience to participate.
